In the case where a tooth has had untreated decay, it is necessary to remove the damaged portion, called a cavity. The portion of tooth that is removed must be replaced with a filling to allow for the structure and function of the tooth to be retained. There are generally two types of fillings available; silver amalgam fillings and composite fillings. The most popular type of filling used at our North Bethesda dental office is a composite white filling.
